Book of the Year

The Children’s Book Council of Australia is pleased to announce a slight change in the Awards announcement procedures for 2016. As most of you will know, next year is the 70th anniversary of the first award and in that time the way the awards are judged and announced has changed many times. That’s what makes them dynamic, responsive to change and relevant.

Next year, immediately following the judges’ meeting, we will announce our Notables (or long list, as other awards call such a list); at the CBCA conference in May, we will announce the Short List and then in August the winners and honour books will be announced. This will keep up the momentum of interest and excitement, give libraries and schools three points of focus and help to promote Australian children’s literature across a number of months.
